The Improverts 5* (Edinburgh Fringe Review)

The Space - Symposium Hall. 9.05

Know Before You Go: Come armed with creative suggestions - it will never be the same show twice.

The words reliable and Fringe do not often fall into the same phrase but here I can confidently state (having seen the show twice) that The Improverts are a reliably hilarious hour of improvised comedy.

"The show is wonderfully different every night"

I preface this review by highlighting how difficult improvisation is, let alone improvised comedy under pressure with an audience waiting to laugh. The show is wonderfully different every night and is always fresh from the players’ imaginations, based off (sometimes questionable) audience suggestions. It is truly remarkable to watch and an absolute joy to be a part of.

(The Improverts)

"It is truly remarkable to watch and an absolute joy to be a part of."

The players work their way through a series of games: Space Jump, Freeze Improvisation, and ‘Should’ve Said’ are just some examples. Every game kicks off with audience suggestions and ends when the players slap the stage; with never a dull moment in between. The energy is soaring from the get-go and everyone; audience and players alike appear to be having a cracking time.

There are times when the scenes start to take a slightly odd turn but the players are up for the challenge and never fail to steer the show to safe ground with a punchline or a comedic dance.

If you are craving live theatre, a buzzing atmosphere, and a good laugh then this is the show for you.
